Top ten low- and no-alcohol wines for Dry January and beyond

The market for alcohol-free and low-alcohol wines is growing fast, and that means the quality has improved, too! As mainstream supermarkets get involved, it’s easier to get your hands on some than ever before. Here are some of our favourites.

Lindeman’s Cabernet Sauvignon

Low-alcohol red wine is hard to do well but this one is very good indeed. From the Hunter Valley in Australia, this is one of the best low-alcohol wines our taste testers have tried. You can read the review here.

Rawson’s Retreat Cabernet Sauvignon

This red is, according to our taste-testers, better than some of the normal-strength red wines on the market. Rated 5 out of 5, they said “this is the best of the alcohol-free reds.” If you’re a drinker of red, this is definitely worth getting your hands on.

Marks and Spencer Sauvignon Blanc

This 0.0% sauvignon blanc is just one of the increasingly-growing selection of alcohol-free wines available at Marks and Spencer. It has a good colour, and is fruity and refreshing. And as it’s readily available, it’s well worth a try!

Rawson’s Retreat Semillon Chardonnay

This 0.5% Chardonnay received a 5 star review from our drinks critics. This Australian number sure "stands out amongst the alcohol-free white wines" and it's not sugary at all (which is a good thing!)

DC Sauvignon Blanc

This 0.4% Sauvignon Blanc is a smooth well expressed wine with a "a very polished flavour”. This bottle is sure to impress dinner guests as the classic, understated packaging makes it looks like much more expensive wine.

Marks and Spencer Rosé

This rosé tastes just like summer. It’s got a hint of sharpness, which our taste-testers quite enjoyed! At 0.0% ABV, we’d definitely recommend giving this rosé a try.

Tesco Rosé

Another high-street supermarket branching out into the low-alcohol wines market is Tesco. This wine had a “really good full fruity flavour”, and a lovely design on the bottle!

Delight Rosé

At less than 0.5% ABV, our taste-testers said “this is a good rosé, and better than plenty of rosés with a much heftier alcoholic content.” It’s got a slight citrus flavour to balance out the sweetness, and looks great when poured.

Lyre's Classico

This 0% sparkling white wine is simply a delight reminiscent of a trip to Italy. Our critics agreed it smells 'sweet and fresh' and has a delightful 'clear colour and gentle fizz'. Lyre’s Classico is packaged in a larger bottle which is perfect for gatherings with friends and family.

Lindeman’s Chardonnay Pinot Noir Muscat

This wine is well-packaged in a nice blue-green bottle with some cute birds and butterflies on the label. More importantly, our taste testers thought that the wine inside was “outstanding.” They rated it 5 out of 5.

Sainsbury’s Sparkling Chardonnay

This 0.5% sparkling chardonnay is a delight for dry wine lovers. Our critics, who gave it 4 stars said it had a lovely champagne smell and a sharp taste. Best of all you can get it from your local Sainsbury.
