The Paulaner Brauerei has been going since 1634, when, according to legend, monks at the Neudeck ob der Au monastery in Bavaria started brewing strong beer to help them get through the difficult days of Lent.

The brewery still turns out some pretty powerful ales, but in 2005 they launched their alcohol-free Hefe-Weißbier (“yeast wheat beer” – meaning it’s unfiltered, and therefore cloudy). We’d definitely recommend it. It’s got a lovely reddish colour, plenty of body, and plenty of taste. Overall, it’s a near-perfect weißbier.
