Dochus entered the alcohol-free spirits market in 2019 and is the work of Scottish brothers Roddy and Kerr Nicoll. There are two varieties of Dochus to choose from: Highland Bothy and Smokey Isle, both of which come in splendidly heavy glass bottles that make clear that this is a high-end drink.

The two drinks are quite different to each other in taste and appearance, although both get a lot of their flavour and aroma from old whisky barrels, and they seem quite clearly aimed at a whisky-drinking audience. Highland Bothy is the smoother of the two: almost creamy, with a hint of caramel. Smokey Isle is, of course, much smokier, and much peatier, and has a boozier, more warming feel.

As you might expect with such new and unusual drinks, our taste testers were divided about these ones. Some were quite enamoured of them, others didn’t like them at all. Once again, you’ll have to try them for yourself. They are both currently available to order from the makers.

And in case you’re wondering how to say the name, the ‘ch’ is aspirate like in ‘Bach’, not like it is in words like ‘chain’ and ‘chair’.
