Three Spirit’s intriguing brand and packaging suggest that it’s something very different to other alcohol-free spirits – and it certainly is!

Designed to be consumed like a spirit, either on the rocks or mixed in a cocktail, it’s made from natural plant-based ingredients which are said to have positive effects on mood and energy. Some of the remarkable ingredients found in this drink are lion’s mane mushrooms, yerba mate, holy basil and coconut vinegar.

Its uniqueness really divided our taste testers. We’d say it’s a love-it-or-hate-it drink.

A striking dark brown when poured, the opaque green bottle hides the colour of the liquid inside, giving it a certain sense of mystery. It has an intense flavour when drunk neat, with a bitter, gin-like aftertaste. It’s quite unlike any of the other teetotal spirits on the market – with a much more savoury taste. Our taste testers identified hints of liquorice, ginger, yeast and figs. If you like the sharp and earthy taste of kombucha, Three Spirit may be for you.

When mixed with a sweet carbonated drink, Three Spirit adds a complexity of flavours which balance out the sometimes over-sweetness of a standard mixer. We tried a few of the serves suggested on the website, and we did feel a noticeable difference in mood. Was it the Three Spirit or just the fun of making cocktails? You’ll have to find that out for yourself.
