“Sour” may not be a word you’d normally associate with your favourite beer. But sour beers have been a big thing for a few years now. The sourness generally comes from the types of yeast used but it can be intensified by adding sharp-tasting fruits such as raspberries, currents and plums.

Big Drop call this a “lawnmower beer”. We’re guessing that’s because it’ll slake your thirst when you’re cutting the grass. It certainly is delightfully refreshing. It’s not quite as mouth-puckeringly sour as some sour beers. In fact, it raises an interesting question: what is the difference between sour and bitter? This ‘sour beer’ reminds us more of a traditional bitter beer, and that’s no bad thing!

As with all Big Drop beers, a top-notch bottle design adds the finishing touches, with a charming painting of Saxtead Mill, a well-known local landmark.

You can buy Big Drop beers from a range of online and high street sellers.
