Unlike some businesses with a rustic-sounding name, Belvoir Farm actually is a farm, nestling in the Vale of Belvoir in rural Leicestershire. They’re famous for cordials and sparking juice drinks, which they’ve been making since 1984, starting in the farmhouse kitchen and expanding from there.

This gin-and-tonic is, in some ways, a new departure for them – a step into the ever-growing market for alcohol-free drinks that are closely equivalent to traditional alcoholic ones. So, was that a smart move?

First, we have to say that this is a genuinely enjoyable sparkling drink. It’s a grown-up drink – not too sweet or too fizzy, and with a lovely sharp aftertaste. The only problem our taste-testers found was that it’s not really very close to gin-and-tonic. There is juniper here, but we found it more like a nice elderflower drink. It’s beautifully packaged, as all Belvoir drinks are, and certainly worth a try. But if you’re looking for something to match your favourite gin, this might not be it.
