Whether you’re obsessed with Cluedo or you’re more of a Kerplunk! fan, board game cafes have it all. Warm up with a cuppa and a biscuit or a slice of cake and indulge your competitive streak. Check out Chance & Counters, for example.
Dry January® doesn't mean a boring month of sitting home, staring at the wall and
feeling sorry for yourself! There are tonnes of alcohol-free activities (for adults!) right outside your door. Here are just a few of the amazing things you can get up to in Cardiff that might just make this your best January ever.
1. Board game café
2. Indoor activities
Why not go a little bit old school and try bowling or crazy golf? They’re great ways to have fun and indulge your competitive side. You could invite a big group or just go with one or two other people – it's completely up to you! Check out this bowling alley and this mini golf venue.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, have a go at an escape room! You don’t need to be a braniac to do well – just use your street smarts and that sober mind.
3. Museum
There are plenty of museums you can have a look around. It’s an excellent way to get out of the house and learn something new, or just look at some art. You could even treat yourself to an afternoon tea when you’ve had enough. St. Fagans, the Cardiff Story Museum and the National Museum Cardiff are just three of many options!
4. Try a new activity
Exercising doesn’t need to be boring! Giving up alcohol for a month means you’ve got more time and more energy to spend on different things, so why not try a new sport? Cardiff has a great bouldering centre, which you can check out here. If climbing isn’t your thing, though, you could always join in with a park run!
If you prefer something a little slower-paced, there are plenty of nice walking trails in the area, like this sculpture trail in Fforest Fawr.
5. Cinema
Love films? Why not treat yourself to a trip to the cinema! Chapter always has a lot of screenings, but also exhibitions for you to have a look at.
Whatever you decide to do this Dry January®, make sure you have a great time doing it! Sobriety does not equal boring and you can be the living proof. What will you be up to this month? Let us know in the comments or @dryjanuary on Twitter – we’d love to know!
