A review of Call of the Void, a low alcohol nitro stout from Siren Craft Brew.

Score:

4/5

ABV: 0.5%

Siren Craft Brew are a relatively new brewery who say they believe that “there’s a beer for everyone”. Thankfully, this includes those of us who are looking to cut back our alcohol consumption but still want to consume “grown up” beverages.

Call of the Void is described as a 0.5% ABV “nitro stout”. Nitro stouts are essentially drinks that contain a higher proportion of nitrogen gas versus carbon dioxide than a traditional stout, which in theory means fewer bubbles and more creaminess. For this particular drink, Siren have partnered with Mash Gang, another producer of low-alcohol and alcohol-free craft beers.

So, is this a partnership made in heaven? On pouring, the signs are certainly good – a deep black coloured liquid with an impressive head. And, as promised, a smoothness and depth of flavour that definitely pleased our tastebuds.

Siren say on the packaging that “they’ve thrown absolutely everything” at this drink, and we believe them! Tonka beans (spicy!), cacao nibs, coffee, vanilla are all in abundance, as well as liquorice root, which no doubt gives the beverage its deep colour.

All in all, our reviewers liked this one. And the serpent image on the packaging is pretty cool too!
