A daquiri, for anyone who might not know, is a rum sour. In its simplest alcoholic form, the harshness of a double shot of rum is balanced out with the tartness of the lime and the sweetness of the sugar. All those flavours are very strong, very brash, and work together. When I used to drink alcohol, sours were some of my favourite cocktails.

Fruit daquiris work by supplementing some of that sugar with fruit: strawberry, mango, lychee or whatever. They work because of that balance. Balance is what this drink lacks. Obviously, there’s no spirit, but there’s no flavour of spirit either. The citrus sours are weak too. What this drink is, is a juice drink. If you wanted a daquiri, you’re going to be disappointed. If you like fruit drinks, maybe this is for you.
