Based in Shrewsbury, by the banks of the River Severn, Straight & Narrow Drinks were founded by Jason Stoneham, when he noticed his alcohol consumption creeping up during the 2020-21 lockdown – as it did for so many people.
Their aim is help you “feel good inside and out” with a range of low-calorie drinks that are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The collection includes alcohol-free versions of seven popular cocktails:
Limoncello Spritz
This is a really special drink. It’s got that bright limoncello yellow, and really nice balance of sweetness and bite. We give it a well-deserved 5 out of 5. It’s got 148 calories per bottle, which is a bit more than the other Straight & Narrow drinks but still less than some alcoholic cocktails.
GON & Tonic Cucumber & Mint
Another 5 out of 5, and only 45 calories per bottle! This is a delightful drink. The cucumber aroma comes through straight away, with a nice hint of mint underneath. It could give Seedlip a run for their money!
Puncho & Lemonade
What you’ve got here is a kind of alcohol-free Pimms and lemonade, and it’s very nice indeed! It’s full of summer fruits with just a little bit of herbs and spice. 5 out of 5 and only 70 calories per bottle.
Spritzo & Soda
This sparkling aperitivo has a lovely deep red colour, and an initial sweetness with a nice bitterness underneath. It doesn’t quite capture the Italian aperitivo flavour but it’s still very good. 4 out of 5, we say. It’s a little more calorific than the others, a 175 calories per bottle.
GON & Tonic Mixed Berry
This one has quite a sweet aroma but the flavour is well balanced between bitter and sweet. Overall, a nice fruity drink, and just 45 calories per bottle. 4 out of 5.
GON & Tonic Rhubarb & Ginger
Another lovely drink. The fresh rhubarb flavour is great, with the ginger underneath it. It’s not really much like a gin-and-tonic but it’s very nice. 4 out of 5. 48 calories per bottle.
GON & Tonic Classic
We really enjoyed this drink but it’s more like a good lemonade than a gin-and-tonic. It’s nice but not quite as nice as the others. We give it 3 out of 5. It’s got 75 calories per bottle.
