Slange Var was created by Sarah Dougan and Charles Beard in Glasgow, and its name comes from the Gaelic toast “Slàinte mhath!” – “Good health!”. It’s made with water from Loch Katrine in the Highlands, which is considered to be one of the best sources of clean water in Europe. To this fresh, clean water, honey is added, along with fresh lime, ginger and cider vinegar.

For me, it looks and smells like a very posh cloudy lemon squash and the tastes are very similar but much more upmarket! And I like the fact that it’s all made from locally sourced ingredients. I did like the taste but, I’m afraid to say, not enough to rush out and buy a bottle for myself.
