Alcohol harm affects all of us, particularly when it comes to work: from missed working days to people exiting the workforce altogether, conflict, lower productivity, and vicious cycles of stress and anxiety. Good work, however, can provide purpose, stability and economic security, especially for those who have experienced dependency.
Now is a unique opportunity for change. There is an increased understanding of the relationship between our health and our wealth, with many employers aware of their self-interest in promoting health workforces, and an appetite in the new Government to shift to prevention. Understanding alcohol harm as a systemic issue could deliver higher productivity, a healthier workforce, and lower costs for the state and businesses alike.
