Alcohol Change UK’s first ever Charity of the Year partnership with Rasselbock!

April 2025 | 7 minutes

We’re delighted to announce our first ever Charity of the Year partnership with a mass participation event!

We have partnered with the Rasselbock Marathon and Half Marathon, an event that is held in the stunning grounds of Sherwood Pines Forest. The event is organised by Rasselbock Running, a small events business with big ambitions who have a friendly/supportive ethos and a family of repeat participants.

Not only were we there in 2024 for the inaugural Rasselbock Marathon and Half Marathon with a small charity team, but there is also a strong link to our cause for Rasselbock Running founder Eric Keeler who has experienced alcohol harm firsthand.

"After moving away from home when I turned 18, I jumped right into the party lifestyle that many young adults do. What started as just drinks after work turned into four years of drinking to excess, for breakfast, at work, in my break and all night. On my 22nd birthday I landed myself in hospital with a torn stomach lining, being told that I’d have less than 4 years to live if I carried on this way.

Since then, I have learnt that alcohol isn't the only way to have fun. I discovered the world of running and I have met so many incredible humans over the past 14 years.

Whilst I’m not alcohol-free I can count on two hands the number of drinks I have in a year. It was not an easy lifestyle change, it was by far the hardest thing I ever did, but being able to live past 26 makes every moment worth it - Eric Keeler, Founder, Rasselbock Running

Having worked with Eric as a supporter/ambassador at a previous charity and supported Eric in the early stages of setting up Rasselbock Running, Alcohol Change UK’s Senior Community and Challenge Events Manager Robin knows what this partnership means to Eric and how our shared values can make a difference to ending alcohol harm.

“We’re excited to partner with the Rasselbock Marathon and Half Marathon and for Alcohol Change UK to be the official charity for the 2025 event. We were involved in the 2024 event and we loved the atmosphere created from a small business that keeps the personal touch and feeling of family across all their events.” Robin Plowman, Senior Community and Challenge Events Manager, Alcohol Change UK

The 2025 event will take place on Sunday 13 July, during Alcohol Awareness Week, and we invite you to join us to raise awareness and funds to end the harms caused by alcohol.
