The Dry January® challenge was launched in 2013, and in the years since, hundreds of thousands of people have changed their relationship with alcohol through our evidence-based, behaviour-change programme. We provide free tools for people to achieve lasting change, including the Try Dry® app, daily motivational emails, inspiring content on our website and our Facebook community group for peer support – tools that independent evidence highlights are successful in supporting short and long-term changes to our drinking habits.
The implication that the charity behind Dry January®, Alcohol Change UK, is funded by the alcohol industry is factually inaccurate and damaging to our mission. We are wholly, proudly, and vigorously independent of the alcohol industry and will always remain so. We serve only the people of the UK as we work to end the harms caused by alcohol; and no one else. This has been urgently flagged with the BBC and we expect urgent action from them to correct this serious error.
