Launched in 1996, Doom Bar 4% is well-established as the best-selling ale in the UK. Cornwall-based Sharp’s Brewery clearly hit on a winning formula that’s given their amber ale wide appeal. And when everyone knows the original so well, it can be hard to introduce a new version. So how is Doom Bar without the alcohol?

Doom Bar Zero has that same deep red colour of the 4% beer. Like a lot of alcohol-free beers, it is a bit sweeter than its alcoholic equivalent – possibly because not all the suger has been turned to alcohol. But that sweetness is balanced by bitter hops. There’s a bit of a caramel flavour too – maybe a little bit too much. But, overall, it’s a really nice amber ale.

You can find it in Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
