Alisha & Ricci

Alisha & Ricci are a married couple from north-west London, both working full-time jobs. They have 3 young children and have been together for 16 years. However, their relationship was nearly derailed by a third party: alcohol. In a bid to save their marriage, they embarked on a journey of self-discovery to quit the booze and emerge with a mission to help others experiencing similar challenges. There is now a sense of peace in their lives that they had never experienced before.

During their journey to sobriety, they noticed the lack of resources aimed at black people who want to give up alcohol. They were also surprised by the lack of representation for black men and women around this topic. This inspired them to create a podcast to fill this gap. They decided to do something about it.

Their podcast, Black and Sober, launched November 2023. It shares personal stories and useful information for people from black and ethnic minority communities trying to give up alcohol.

They hope that Black and Sober will provide an important platform for those in the community who want to give up alcohol. Their mission is to amplify black and ethnic minority voices in sobriety resources. They also wish to show others how to cope, relax and enjoy life without alcohol in all sorts of scenarios.

"Sobriety does not have a colour, alcohol dependency affects all races, and we are happy to be here representing ours” Alisha & Ricci

"We are so proud of our role as ambassadors for Alcohol Change UK. We hope by sharing our stories and personal experiences, that it helps others from similar cultural backgrounds who have faced challenges relating to alcohol misuse. It could be that person who has had a secret struggle with alcohol or those affected by a loved one with an alcohol dependency."
