Karl Considine
Karl has been sober since 2021 after struggling with alcohol and drug addiction throughout his twenties and thirties. With the help of treatment, he found his path to recovery, and since then, his mission has been to show others that an alcohol-free life is anything but boring. His motto, “Cutting out isn’t missing out!” reflects this belief—whether you’re sober for good, taking a weekend off, or just curious about making a change.
Since getting sober, Karl has been at the forefront of the alcohol-free movement, pioneering major initiatives like Manchester’s first successful alcohol-free pop-up bar, running alcohol-free bars at some of the UK’s biggest summer festivals, hosting a podcast, and delivering public talks. He has also worked with major employers, including Amazon, to provide workplace talks and training on alcohol awareness.
Karl is the founder of Turn Up Together, an alcohol-free community that brings people together for real-life, booze-free events. Whether you’re sober, sober-curious, or a mindful drinker, Turn Up Together creates spaces where people can connect—without the hangover.
"Having battled alcoholism for many years, I am committed to speaking openly and authentically about how sobriety has totally transformed my life. During my darkest moments, I felt alone in my struggles, believing my addiction was a personal flaw. That’s why representation matters—so others can see that recovery is possible, no matter their background.
I am especially passionate about raising awareness of alcohol-related challenges within the LGBTQ+ community, as research shows we are disproportionately affected compared to our heterosexual counterparts. As a cisgender gay man, I want to be a visible role model, proving that these struggles can be overcome and that a fulfilling, sober life is within reach."
I’m super pleased to proudly serve as an Ambassador for Alcohol Change UK, the nation’s leading charity dedicated to reducing alcohol harm. Their message deeply resonates with me—we’re not anti-alcohol, we’re anti alcohol-harm.
