Responding to the announcement, Dr Richard Piper, Chief Executive of Alcohol Change UK, said:
"Any additional funding for alcohol treatment is to be welcomed, and it's brilliant that PHE is showing its commitment to reducing alcohol harm in this way. We're particularly excited to see the focus on parents with alcohol problems, as this reflects a growing understanding of the wider impact alcohol has, far beyond people who drink. Hopefully this is another sign of the changing tide, away from the swingeing treatment cuts of the past few years and towards effective, coordinated, compassionate action to reduce the damage alcohol does to our society.
"The Alcohol Charter lays out further workable, cost-effective policies that can make a real difference, and we hope to see these in the Government's upcoming alcohol strategy and Prevention Green Paper."
