Our community outreach project aims to raise awareness about harmful drinking, promote healthier habits, and tackle the stigma surrounding alcohol use.

Aims of the project:

  1. Raise awareness about harmful drinking and its impact on people, families, and communities.
  2. Provide the tools and resources to promote more mindful drinking and reduce alcohol-related harm.
  3. Engage with diverse and underserved communities to address barriers to help and support.
  4. Help recruit further new volunteers as fellow local Community Champions to help with outreach efforts.
  5. Build a supportive and inclusive community that fosters understanding and reduces stigma around alcohol harm.

We're especially focused on reaching marginalised and underserved communities where the harm is higher, and where help and awareness are often more limited. By engaging with local organisations, health and wellbeing teams, colleges and universities, community centres, and many more people and places, we want to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources needed for a healthier relationship with alcohol.

Your role as a volunteer: As a local outreach volunteer, or local Community Champion, you'll be the driving force behind positive change in your community.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with local communities: Connect with diverse and disadvantaged groups, attending community centres, religious settings, and other venues where people gather. Your presence and active participation will foster trust and enable impactful conversations.
  • Spreading awareness: Help raise awareness about the harms of excessive alcohol consumption and the benefits of mindful drinking. Utilise your communication skills to convey our messages effectively and engage with individuals from different backgrounds.
  • Sharing resources: Distribute educational materials, brochures, and information about local services related to alcohol harm reduction. By providing valuable resources, you'll empower individuals to make informed choices and seek help when needed.
  • Organising and participating in events: Assist in organising community events, workshops, and campaigns centred around healthier drinking or becoming alcohol-free. Your involvement will encourage community participation and create a supportive environment for positive change.
