Luke Boase set up the Lucky Saint brewery with mission to “change how the world thinks about alcohol-free beer”. After four failed attempts in the UK, he headed off to Germany, where he spent many months learning about beer and creating this new unfiltered lager, finally launched in 2018.

So, was it worth the wait? Undoubtedly it was! This is an excellent beer. Although it is officially a lager – which means it’s been matured in the cold – we’d say that the flavour is half-way between a weißbier and a sour. As such, despite the “lager” name, it’s more likely to please real ale lovers than mainstream lager fans.

It’s a great-looking beer, served in stubby American-style bottles, with a beautiful blue and brass colour palate and a cute little ladybird. The beer is also guaranteed vegan, which is sure to please a lot of people. Top marks, we say!
