Some breweries make much of their history and tradition. Founded in 2011, Cerveza La Sagra in Madrid – makers of Madrí Excepcional – take pride instead in being young, modern and innovative. Their standard-strength lager has become popular in the UK in recent years, and it’s good to see it being joined in the shelves by this 0.0% beer.
To cut to the chase, this is one of best alcohol-free lagers we’ve had. It’s got a lovely golden colour and plenty of life. It’s malty but not too sweet, and it’s got body, which is rare at 0.0% ABV. Chill it a bit, but not too much, and you’re in for a treat!
As for the name, it’s a nod to the brewers’ pride in their patch: Madrí is a traditional way of pronouncing the name of Spain’s capital city.
