Since most alcohol-free spirits are a bit like gin, it’s nice to find one that’s a bit like whisky. According to the rules, Scotch Whisky has to be 40% ABV or more, so this can’t be called “whisky”, but that’s probably what it’s closest to.

It’s got a nice whisky colour and a pleasant smoky aroma. According to its creators, it’s born of “brotherhood, courage and loyalty, music, mist and harsh weather”, and the website is replete with pictures of men getting out and about in rugged landscapes. It has a nice warming aftertaste, so you may well fancy a dram after a day exposed to the elements.

The producers suggest you serve it with cola or ginger ale, although we found its flavour was somewhat lost in those two mixers. You’ll have to conduct your own experiments to see what works best for you. You can buy Celtic Soul in Sainsbury’s.
