I did wonder when I picked this can up whether it would taste a bit generic. Ginger and lime as a flavour combination is fairly old-hat, and I wasn’t sure if the addition of mango would lift it out of mundanity.

The answer to that question is that whilst it’s not boring, it’s not the most exciting drink either. The mango is lost somewhat in the other flavours. It’s too subtle a fruit to keep up with the piquancy of the kombucha’s acids, the ginger’s spice, or the lime’s citrus zing. It feels like the drink is pulling its punches somewhat. It’s nice that it’s not overpowering, but it’s not doing much else for me either.

For a food pairing, I’d recommend trying this in the place of wines like Albariño/Alvarinho, with their comparable zest, fruit and salty notes. I think it would work well with seafood, or alongside a Caesar salad.
