Jewel of York was certainly one of the most interesting beers launched in 2022, in large part because of the heart-warming story behind it. It’s been created by Ainsty Ales in partnership with the charity Menfulness, both based in the city of York. Menfulness aim to help more men talk about their mental health. And since alcohol is one thing many men use to avoid talking about their feelings, a low-alcohol beer is probably quite a good way to get people thinking about the issue.

The beer itself comes in a nice can in various shades of blue. Once poured, it’s a very pale and quite lively beer. It has a nice head, although that doesn’t hang around. The flavour is light, a little citrusy, and very hoppy for a lager. It may appeal more to IPA fans than lager drinkers. Either way, we certainly recommend it.
