It turns out that we’ve encountered this drink before, in 2022 when we visited The Clink Restaurant at HMP Cardiff – now sadly closed. When we found it again in Sainsbury’s in 2026, we thought it needed a proper review.
You might be wondering why you should bother with a canned Virgin Mary. Isn’t that just a tin of tomato juice? Well, there’s much more to it than that. For starters, it’s made with fresh tomatoes. Plus, there’s olives, Scotch Bonnett peppers, tamarind, garlic, capers, vegan Worcester Sauce, and more. With all that going on, you’re not going to notice there’s no vodka.
The can has a cheeky visual reference to the original Bloody Mary – Mary Tudor – with her hair transformed into a tomato.
