Seedlip began with its founder, Ben Branson, experimenting with age-old recipes from seventeenth-century physician John French. After a couple of years of refining, Seedlip has become one of the most recognised botanical spirit brands in the UK today.

There is something so sophisticated about this little can: not just the gorgeous design but also the taste. I made the most of the fading sunshine while drinking this, and the spice flavours gave a gentle warmth as the evening drew colder. There is a beautiful, well-balanced harmony between the grapefruit tonic and the underlying citrus notes, coupled with the bold spices that hold their own against the tartness of the tonic.

I put some lemon in mine because it is unthinkable for me to have a spirit-based drink without citrus or other fruit. It added to the already tartness of the taste, but that works for me (although it might not be for everyone).
