A review of La Gioiosa - an alcohol-free sparkling white wine lacking bite with pleasant, apple tones.

We spotted this sparkling white wine from the north of Italy in July 2021, just as lots of us were on the lookout for nice summer drinks, which is exactly what this is. Although it lacks the bite of a really good dry sparkling wine, it’s got a nice sharp flavour and just a hint of fresh green apples. And it avoids the excessive sweetness that spoils so many drinks in this category. If we’re honest, it’s not much like wine, but it’s not bad either.
“Gioiosa” is Italian for “joyous”. I’m not sure if our taste-testers were quite that happy with it but they certainly enjoyed it!
