As the name suggests, Kronenbourg 1664 was first brewed in Strasbourg way back in the seventeen century, although the modern brewery is a little newer and opened in 1952. It’s one of the most popular beers in France and the brewers boast that it is “la première bière Française”.

This alcohol-free version was launched in the UK in 2025, and its creators says it will “elevate any occasion without compromise…making it a perfect partner with food”. So, what’s it like?

It’s certainly a very lively beer, with plenty of head on it. Once it settles, it has a clear golden colour. As for flavour, it’s got more hoppy bitterness than your average lager, although it’s not quite as sharp as a pale ale.

The alcohol-free larger market is pretty crowded, and there’s not much in this beer that stands out from that crowd, but it is light and refreshing, especially when well chilled.
