Lyre’s Dark Cane Spirit is packaged in a handsome-looking bottle with a comical pirate parrot on the label. It promises “fruits, molasses, oranges, nutmeg and salted caramel” and, while there are no mixing suggestions on the bottle, you can guess it would go well with cola or ginger ale.

It delivers on the molasses immediately as the drink is very sweet on the nose and is a rich brown when poured. At first sip, both the nutmeg and orange come through, leaving a slight tingling on the tongue. The vanilla sweetness is pleasant and there is a warming aftertaste.

Dark Cane Spirit would go well in both warm and cool weather as a refreshing libation or something to warm the cockles!

Overall, Lyre’s have produced another delicious non-alcoholic spirit which can be enjoyed on its own or with a mixer. Bravo!
