Dark, heavy ales are hard to do well without any alcohol, but this one has been done very well indeed.
It’s got a nice nutty colour and a hazelnut aroma. It’s malty with just a bit of bitterness, and hints of Christmas spices hanging around in the background. We’re thinking it would go well with strong cheese, or with mince pies, if it’s that time year.
It’s sold under the M&S brand, but it’s brewed in Southwold, so we suspect it’s been made by Adnams, who’ve already impressed with their alcohol-free Ghost Ship.
