The Buckley family have been brewing beer in Wales since 1767. Ciders are a more recent addition to their portfolio, and their Red Hog ciders are made with apples from Somerset, Herefordshire and the Welsh Borders – all blended together at the family’s brewery in Llandeilo. In 2024, they added two alcohol-free ciders to their range: this medium dry cider, and another with summer fruits.
Alcohol-free and low-alcohol ciders tend to be medium to sweet in taste, and so this much drier cider fills a real gap in the alcohol-free market. It has a golden, almost amber colour. It’s lively with lots of tiny bubbles; and, overall, it’s a great traditional cider – but without the alcohol!
It’s well packaged, with the eponymous Red Hog on the label reminiscent of the Welsh legend of the Twrch Trwyth.
