Likely many good drinks, You + I have a good backstory. They started life on Alan and Kelsey’s kitchen table in a flat in Glasgow. They are currently brewed in a railway arch in the same city.

From the get-go, there was a focus on quality, and healthy ingredients, and the drinks are certified as organic. By 2026, they were being stocked by more than 500 shops, including Harrods and Selfridges, and you can also buy the drinks directly from You + I.

There are five types – all lively and bursting with flavour, and served in smart brown glass bottles with a really nice series of graphics reflecting the ingredients in each drink:

  • Original: This one’s made with black tea and cane sugar, although we picked up an apply flavour, and if you’re into dry cider, it may appeal especially to you
  • Black Cherry: As you might expect, this is a little sweeter than the others but very well balanced. It might suit you if you like something to take the edge off the sharpness of kombucha
  • Ginger: There’s a really nice natural ginger hit from the first sip. It could work well in cocktails where you would normally use ginger ale – and there’s a recipe for just that on the You + I website
  • Lemon and Lavendar: This seems like the one most likely to divide opinion. It’s sharp and floral, which is an interesting mix. You’ll either love it or hate it, we suspect!
  • Lime and Sea Salt: If you’re into Mexican food and drink, you’ll know that lime and salt go well together. If you’re looking for something alcohol-free to fill a margherita-shaped gap in your life, this could be it.
