Alcohol Change UK has submitted a representation to the Government’s Spending Review. In our response, we highlighted that action now to prevent alcohol harm will:
- Raise revenue
- Deliver on the Government’s Health, Growth, and Safer Streets missions
- Improve our wellbeing, prosperity and productivity.
The Spending Review is an opportunity for the Government to take bold action to prevent alcohol harm.
Effective action to address alcohol harm requires joined up working across government departments, led by the Health Mission Delivery Board.
- £5 billion: what reintroducing the alcohol duty escalator could raise by 2029/30.
- £11: the amount we spend dealing with alcohol harm in A&Es and ambulances, for every £1 spent on community treatment services.
- £11 billion: extra annual return on investment through reforming how the Government focuses on its goal of prevention.
