Put Simply, Rothaus Alkoholfrei is a solid and tasty German beer, and you could be forgiven for thinking it wasn’t alcohol-free at all. It’s carbonated well, with a full malty flavour and excellent colouring, which all contribute to this being an outstanding lager. Generally, lagers are not my go-to drink, but this one is impressive.

The Rothaus brewery was founded in 1791 and they are clearly proud of their history – as reflected in the very traditional, old-fashioned label. This only really adds to the overall effect of the product: you could imagine supping it in a Black Forest biergarten. Branding-wise, this doesn’t stand up to the modern, funky designs but the quality of the product far surpasses a number of its modern equivalents.
