Stouts and porters are a relatively small category in the alcohol-free market, but it’s a style of beer that really allows brewers to go to town with interesting flavours – coffee, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits.

In this case, BrewDog have gone for roast coffee and also lactose (milk sugar) – a traditional ingredient that gave us the term “milk stout”. Unfortunately, we found this beer a bit thin and a bit more like coffee with a hint of beer than beer with a hint off coffee. It’s certainly good to see this category growing, but we’re not sure if Wake Up Call has knocked Big Drop off its throne as the king of the alcohol-free stouts.
