As far as we know, this drink from the Old Coach House distillery in Monmouth is the first alcohol-free spirit from Wales.
The first ingredient is Welsh spring water, but most of the rest of the flavours come from much further east. As the drink’s name and the camel on the bottle suggest, Silk Roots was inspired by the long journeys made over the centuries to bring spices from east Asia to Europe. The strongest flavour that comes through is cinnamon – almost like a cake – followed by cardamom. There really is nothing quite like this drink!
We ordered Silk Roots, and its companion drink Celtic Myst, directly from the distillery.
