Tall Tales Pale Ale Zero, inspired by ‘the Bristol Croc’
Bristol-based Butcombe Brewing have been making beers since the late 1970s, but in recent times they have ventured into the ever-expanding alcohol-free market, first with their excellent Goram IPA Zero and now with this Tall Tales Pale Ale.
The first thing our reviewers noticed was the eye-catching cartoon crocodile on the packaging. Apparently, the beer is inspired by ‘the Bristol Croc’, a feral reptile that has been spotted by a number of Bristolians in the River Avon. True accounts or just ‘tall tales’?
Whether or not the croc is real, we certainly think this alcohol-free beverage is worth ‘snapping’ up. It’s got a really refreshing, fruity zing to it, with a welcome bitterness from the pineapple and grapefruit flavours that hangs around long enough to make you want to go back for more. It’s perhaps not as hoppy as you’d expect, but overall this one croc-ed our world!
