This wine from Zeno is a convincing alcohol-free variation of sparkling wine that feels satisfyingly grown up. Made from the Macabeo grape, native to the Rioja region and commonly in Cava, it's not surprising that this wine feels familiar in structure, dryness and taste.

On the palate it’s dry, light and refreshing, with clarity rather than sweetness leading the experience. You can taste the defining notes with strong hits of crisp apple and elderflower, with the citrus note hitting later in the after taste. The acidity gives it lift and shape without becoming sharp or overwhelming.

The aftertaste is clean, with that gentle note of acidity presenting strongly enough to feel intentional but not unpleasant. We’ve had alcohol-free Cava before that swings too far towards a vinegary side of acidity, and this wine from Zeno feels like they have balanced the finish excellently. The carbonisation is gentle lending itself to the flavours with no harsh fizz or aggressiveness for the palate, which makes it feel smooth and refreshing.
