Sipsmith are relative newcomers as gin-makers, but their distinctive bottles, each with a graceful swan – a nod to their location on the banks of the River Thames – can now be found in shop and pubs across the country. They’ve made gins with oranges, lemons, strawberries, and even tea. And now they’ve made a gin without alcohol.

Sipsmith FreeGlider was launched in 2021 and it’s been a long time in the making – Sipsmith experimented with 189 prototypes and more than 100 ingredients. They promise “bright zesty citrus, balanced by a full-bodied capsicum heat”.

Our taste-testers enjoyed it, but we have to say that they thought it lacked punch. There is a nice citrus flavour, especially when mixed with tonic, but not much juniper here and no noticeable heat. It’s a nice drink, but there are other similar drinks out there that we’ve found more memorable.
