The Blue Light training courses

We offer a range of training to help you develop new skills to work more effectively with those drinking at potentially harmful levels.

One-day Blue Light training programme

This course will be of use to both alcohol services and those who work in non-alcohol specialist settings but who encounter people with problematic drinking in the course of their work, whether this is in health, social care, housing and homelessness services or the criminal justice system.

By the end of this course you'll be able to:

  • Identify clients who need support
  • Understand the rationale for attempting to intervene with this client group
  • Understand in greater detail the physical and psychological effects of alcohol
  • Be able to use the 'assessing barriers to change' framework
  • Understand the range of techniques available for use with this group including risk management, nutrition and harm reduction approaches
  • Understand the legal powers available to manage this client group including the new anti-social framework
  • Formulate a realistic intervention plan

Two-day Blue Light train the trainer course

The two day train the trainer course runs with up to 12 local staff to enable them to run the Blue Light one day training course as set out above. By the end of this course you'll have:

  • Experienced and participated in the one-day training course
  • Understood the underpinning knowledge behind the course
  • Explored case studies of high need drinkers in greater detail to deepen their knowledge
  • Developed your own model course
