We first came across Hogan’s Cider in 2019, when they launched a 1% traditional apple cider humorously named High Sobriety. It was good cider, but the alcoholic strength was a little too high for some people who were looking to cut back or abstain. It’s been relaunched at 0.5%, which is great new; and it’s been joined by this delicious raspberry cider.
Fruit ciders can be a bit too sweet sometimes, and not much like cider. This is not one of those. It’s got an attractive deep red colour, and a great aroma of fresh apples and fresh raspberries, with no hint of anything artificial. It is sweeter than High Society Original, but there is a really nice balance here between sweetness and sourness. In particular, there is a shot of apple cider vinegar in there, which gives it an extra bite; but the raspberry juice stops that being too much.
In short, this is one of the best fruit ciders we’ve tried. You can buy High Sobriety Raspberry online direct from the farm in lovely tradition brown bottles or in handy cans.
