Hattie Underwood

Hattie Underwood is the founder of Sober Happy Free, an online social media platform tackling addiction-related stigma and creating open conversations around sobriety. Her message centres on the belief that ‘If I can get sober, you can too’. Alcohol-free since April 2021, Hattie is fast becoming a leading voice for sobriety in the UK.

Battling addiction throughout her teens and 20’s, Hattie’s mental and physical health continued to decline as she tried to hold it all together to the outside world. Upon reaching 30, and shortly after becoming a mother, Hattie reached her rock bottom, and something changed.

Now five years sober, Hattie shares honest reflections from her experience of addiction, sobriety, and recovery to help others feel less alone, less shame, and less stigma.

Hattie’s long-term sobriety journey was inspired by taking part in Alcohol Change UK’s Dry January® challenge and using the Try Dry® app, experiences which helped change her relationship with alcohol and introduced her to the wider sober community.

I’m incredibly proud to become an Ambassador for Alcohol Change UK. Dry January and Try Dry helped me discover what life without alcohol could look like, so supporting the charity’s work feels incredibly meaningful. Anyone can experience addiction, but I want people to know that the same can be true of sobriety.
