Sam O'Brien West

After facing his own struggles with binge drinking and mental health issues, Sam chose to go sober at 30 and began sharing his experience online to help others.

He has since built a community of over 100,000 followers and continues to create honest, relatable content aimed at helping people feel less alone. He is also a passionate runner and aspiring (very amateur) triathlete, sharing the role endurance sport can play in supporting mental health and helping people stay sober.

Sam reflected that it hasn't always been easy, but that it’s no exaggeration to say that going sober has been the most transformative decision he ever made. He shares his experience and believes that if it helps even one person question their relationship with alcohol, it’s worth it.

“I feel incredibly proud to become an ambassador for Alcohol Change UK. Binge drinking had such a negative impact on my life, and I want to do everything I can to help others escape that cycle. I think especially as a guy in your late 20s or early 30s, the thought of cutting down - or quitting entirely - can feel terrifying because drinking is so ingrained in our culture. Alcohol Change UK does a fantastic job of reducing alcohol-related harm at every level across the country and it’s a privilege to become a part of that mission"
